Proud winners at the FA Women’s Awards

Madeleine Szwed & Roxanne Bennett
9 September 2017

We are very proud to announce that our very own Madeleine Szwed collected an FA Womens Award as part her involvement in the Caterham Pumas Mums Recreational Football in Association with the Crystal Palace FC Foundation.

They were were one of many nominations for the category for ‘Best Participation Initiative 2017’ for the Mums Recreational Football programme which Roxanne Bennett, Sports Development Officer at Crystal Palace FC Foundation, trialled last summer.

Roxanne chose Caterham Pumas because of the close links between our club and the Foundation. It was aimed at encouraging some of the football mums to learn, experience, more about the game, experience the game to give them a better understanding of what their daughters went through, but it also had other benefits for women in terms of improving fitness, building confidence and self-esteem and a social element evolved from it too.

Madeleine said “I was part of the trial last summer and enjoyed every second of it. The Crystal Palace Foundation then funded me to complete my Level 1 Coaching Course and I started helping to coach my daughters team alongside Phil, Mark and John. Us ladies train every Tuesday evening and are coached by Roxanne and we have around 30 ladies who participate. Today we are also competing in our third tournament at Wimbledon. I was invited to the FA Awards as I’ve been a case study for Roxanne (you may have seen some embarrassing videos of me on Facebook) but it was a great honour and I’m so happy we won and it’s an award Roxanne truly deserves as she puts so much time and effort into the programme.”
